Systemic evaluation of power-to-heat and power-to-gas in district heating systems in north-east Germany and pilot implementation in Berlin Adlershof

Main objectives of the project are:

• evaluate the potential for P2H using electricity from curtailments of renewable generation caused by bottlenecks in the power grid in Berlin Adlershof and other selected locations in north-east Germany
• examine new operating concepts and develop business cases for municipal utilities using P2H for district heating
• develop planning tools for municipal utilities
• pilot implementation in Berlin Adlershof and assessment of the new operating concepts

P2X@BerlinAdlershof is a joint project of TU Berlin, Department of Energy Systems and BTB, operator of the P2H station in Adlershof. Further parties involved are WISTA-MANAGEMENT, new energy and 50Hertz Transmission.
